Falling Leaves. Our beautiful Montreal long summer days are suddenly chilly autumn nights. The leaves crunch underfoot, the wind’s new zing turns up the collars, and for Yiddishe Mammas (comme moi), fall means hearty s
oups and warm slippers for the family.
But at Chabad of Westmount, fall is not withdrawal!
Fall is an explosion of activities, learning and action. Shabbatons, teen groups, lectures and classes. Fall is gourmet and delicious Friday night dinners, joyous Chassidic song and intellectual delights from world renowned scholars. Fall is inspiration, excitement and growth.
So have that chicken soup, and enjoy the turning leaves. But don’t forget to turn YOUR leaf and to ingest some chicken soup for your SOUL. As we turn inwards to the comfort of our homes, let’s turn inwards and warm our souls.
Jewish mysticism teaches us that every descent is for the purpose of ascent. So, instead of:What goes up must come down, think Chassidic : If it comes down, its there only to help us up.
Which brings me back to the falling leaves. Falling leaves: They never looked this good. Happy Fall!
