Rabbi Manis Friedman 

Scholar in Residence

World-renowned author, counselor, lecturer and philosopher, Rabbi Manis Friedman uses ancient wisdom and modern wit as he captivates audiences around the country and around the world.  He serves as Dean of  Bais Chana Institute of Jewish Studies in Minnesota, the world's first yeshiva exclusively for women, which he founded in 1971. 

Rabbi Friedman's first book, DOESN'T ANYONE BLUSH ANYMORE?, published by Harper San Francisco in 1990, was widely praised by the media. BLUSH is currently in its fourth printing. He has been featured internationally in over 200 print articles, and interviewed on more than 50 television and radio talk shows. He has appeared on CNN, A&E Reviews, PBS, and BBC Worldwide, and has been the subject of articles in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Seventeen, Guideposts, Insight, Publisher's Weekly and others.

He has lectured all over the US,  Israel, England, The Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Canada, and Hong Kong.

Rabbi Yossi Shanowitz is the spiritual leader of Chabad of Westmount and is a Talmudic scholar and lectures extensively on  Jewish law, ethics and Mysticism.   

He is director of the Quebec Bar accredited  'QJ Law Symposiums', where his  acclaimed lectures on comparitive Jewish Law are presented in conjunction with leading Quebec legal experts and Justices.

Rabbi Jacobson is the spiritual leader of Congregation Chevra Kadisha B’nai Jacob Beth Hazikaron – Beth Hillel.  He was  recently appointed as president of the Rabbinical Council of Canada.  Rabbi Jacobson lectures in on comparative religion and theology. His recent dissertation in Word in the World, entitled “Can Jews and Christians Talk” was published by Concordia University, and is being used as a text for the Lonnergan theological department of studies.

Presently, he is in a doctoral program and is working on a special project in Systematic Theology, exploring the historical evolution of the law of retribution with the renowned author and French professor Charles Kannengeisser.

Cantor Yitzhak Epstein, a tenor,  was born in Jerusalem, Israel and is a third generation Sabra. He waas trained by the late cantor, Cantor Zalmen Pollack and studied uder Mr. Yaffen Blochem of the Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem and currently serves as cantor of The Chevra Synagogue.

Devorah Shanowitz is an inspirational speaker and Jewish studies teacher. 

She hosts the popular weekly "Torah with Devorah" lectures at Chabad of Westmount and has lectured extensively on Jewish Women in Jewish Law, Relationships, Judaism and Natural Healing and Bible Studies. 

She also serves as co-director of  The Chabad of Westmount Irwin Beutel Lecture Series.
